Mont des Cats
The first brewery at Mont des Cats Abbey was founded in 1848 and closed in 1907.
From that date onwards, the community mainly lived off the farm and cheese dairy. And this continued until the early 1970s. The farm was then shut down and the land was leased. The cheese dairy was then, and for half a century, the main resource of the community.
Since 2011 it was necessary to find a second source of income, the abbey resumed the brewing tradition. In order to respond quickly to demand, it was of course difficult for them to start brewing theirselves according to the rules of the art and according to the requirements of the Trappist. That is why the help of the Abbey of Scourmont (Chimay) was called in.
The beer is a Trappist beer, because it is brewed in a Trappist abbey and according to a Trappist recipe, but does not have the "Authentic Trappist Product" logo. Chimay brews a specific beer: it is therefore not a Chimay beer whose label has been changed.
