Geuzestekerij Moriau

The story of the cutting industry starts around 1880 with Johannes Moriau. Although he was a brickmaker by profession, he also worked as a beer maker at the Merlo brewery in Vorst.

In 1920, his son Leopold took over the cutting business, and from March 16, 1956, his sons Jan and Pierre continued the family business. One of Jan's sons, Jos Moriau, continued the beer business until 1993.

The Geuze of Moriau continues to exist today. Initially, the Geuze Moriau recipe was brewed by Brouwerij De Neve, but now it is provided by Brouwerij Frank Boon, which selects special Lambics for Moriau and is responsible for the bottling.

Bierhandel Schoentjes, which took over the Moriau beer trade in 2002, takes care of collection from Boon and distribution.

The Geuze Moriau is a Belgian classic. Spontaneous fermentation and two years' maturation in wooden barrels give the beer a special, wine-like champagne taste, with a certain sourness but still a soft taste.
