Brouwerij Slaghmuylder

Emmanuel Slaghmuylder, once a grain merchant in the center of Ninove, started Brouwerij Slaghmuylder in 1860.

Due to limitations in the existing buildings, the brewery was looking for a new location. In 1920 they purchased land from the Abbey of Saint Cornelius and Saint Cyprian in Ninove, where they opened a fully operational brewery in 1926. Originally, pilsner, a bottom-fermented beer, was brewed.

During the war years, the brewery temporarily switched to top-fermented beer due to the lower energy requirement for the cooling process. It was not until 1958 that they resumed the production of Slag Pils, Helles and Tafelhell bottom fermentation beers.

In 1979, Brouwerij Slaghmuylder started producing Witkap-Pater on behalf of Brouwerij Verlinden in Brasschaat. The Witkap-Pater range at the time included Stimulo, double and Tripel. In 1981, Brouwerij Slaghmuylder officially took over the brand and the recipes.

"Greut Lawauitj" was baptized above the brewing kettle for the European Bellemannen Championship. This beer, now known as the Witkap-Pater Special, is an amber-colored top-fermented beer.

Brewer Michel Slaghmuylder died in 2006, after which his son-in-law Luc Verhaegen took over the management until now.

At the moment, Brouwerij Slaghmuylder is a special family business, in which the fifth and sixth generations continue to build on a rich tradition, with a focus on quality.
