Brouwerij Sterkens
Brewery Sterkens started as a typical brewery / farm in 1651 in Meer. At that time, a brewery consisted of a brewhouse, a barn, a stable, a spade and a few fields around the brewery where all kinds of herbs were harvested. For 14 generations, the Sterkens family brewed tasty, traditional Belgian beers in the brewery in Meer. This according to the old traditions. They made use of all the knowledge and experience passed on.
Due to the rise of large and financially strong breweries worldwide, Brewery Sterkens came to the conclusion that the brewery site in Meer could no longer be maintained. Sterkens beer is no longer brewed in Meer itself these days. However, the beers are still brewed according to the old recipes of Sterkens.
Until 1990, the brewery mainly distributed beers to more than 500 restaurants and cafés in Belgium. After the 1990s, Brewery Sterkens shifted its focus to the export market. And with success. After all, 95% of production is currently sold abroad.
The striking and exceptional packaging of the beers in ceramic jugs and decorative bottles has given the beers of Brewery Sterkens a unique image.
