Brouwerij Strubbe

The story of Brouwerij Strubbe begins in 1830 when Ludovicus Strubbe started a farm brewery 'De Maagd van Gent' in Ichtegem. After several generations the name was changed to Brouwerij Strubbe.

Until the end of the First World War, only top-fermented beer was brewed, two types, single beer (2%) and double beer (4%). Aimé Strubbe then started, like so many breweries in Belgium, brewing bottom-fermented beers, Bock, pilsner and the popular Stallion beer. The recipe for Hengstenbier formed the basis for Ichtegem's Oud Bruin.

Gilbert and Etienne Strubbe, sons of Aimé, took over the company, with Gilbert as brewmaster and Etienne for sales and administration. Marc Strubbe (son of Gilbert) and Norbert Strubbe (son of Etienne) belong to the sixth generation of owners.

In 2008, Stefan Strubbe (seventh generation) took over the duties from his father Norbert.

Until 1999, the brewery also produced water and lemonade, but production was stopped to allow the expansion of the bottling line.
