In 2013, Oud Beersel purchased 65 Demi-Muids to mature its Lambic beers. These oak barrels have a capacity of 600 liters each and are fitted with thick staves. They were originally used in the wine industry to age Chateauneuf du Pape wine before ending up in our barrel rooms in Beersel. Thanks to the thicker staves, the absorption of oxygen is reduced compared to other smaller barrels, resulting in a more balanced and smooth taste. For the Oude Geuze Barrel Selection Demi-Muids 2021 we have selected our very best Demi-Muids, filled with Lambic from one to four years old. The end result is a beautifully complex beer that expresses the characteristic flavors and aromas of our Lambic in a special way.
