Order specialty beers and enjoy a surprising explosion of flavors

Compared to pilsner beers, specialty beers have a more complex flavor, higher alcohol content, and a different brewing technique. While pilsners are often refreshing thirst-quenchers, specialty beers have a more pronounced character with notes of spices and hops. Here's how to recognize the unique flavors of these beers:

  • They are top-fermented, which means the fermentation process takes place at a temperature of 12°C to 35°C. This allows for more variation in flavors and the addition of ingredients like coriander, orange, or anise.
  • Specialty beers feature fruity, spicy, malty, and hoppy notes. It is the balance of these elements that makes these beers so unique. Every sip reveals a new flavor.
  • In some dark specialty beers, you can taste a pronounced explosion of flavors such as chocolate and caramel, also found in old brown beers.

The different types of specialty beers at Belgian Beer Heaven

At Belgian Beer Heaven, you'll find more than 1,600 Belgian beers. Below is a small selection of our specialty beers:

How to serve your specialty beer

When pouring and serving your favorite specialty beer, keep the following factors in mind:

  • Temperature: for fruit beers, serve between 4°C and 6°C, for saison beers and wheat beers, serve between 6°C and 8°C, and for stronger beers, serve between 8°C and 12°C.
  • Type of glass: a tripel or saison beer is best served in a tulip glass, strong Trappist beers in a goblet, and fruit beers in a flute. Looking for the perfect glass? Discover our wide range of beer glasses.
  • Pouring technique: tilt your glass when you start pouring to avoid too much foam. When your bottle is almost empty, straighten your glass. Fan of complex flavors? Pour the last part of the bottle, the yeast sediment, as it contains all the pronounced aromas of your beer.
