Brouwerij De Brabandere

Brouwerij De Brabandere was founded in 1894 in Bavikhove by beer enthusiast Adolphe De Brabandere and his son Jozef. With a few copper kettles and a small storage space, they laid the foundation for what is today one of the largest independent breweries in Belgium. Thanks to Jozef's drive, the brewery quickly grew. During the First World War, activities temporarily came to a standstill, but after the war the damage was quickly repaired and brewing resumed at full speed.

After Jozef's death in 1929, his wife temporarily headed the brewery. She was later succeeded by their son Albert, who further expanded the business. Originally, the brewery supplied only to cafés and private individuals, but Albert also took steps towards selling to beer traders. His commercial approach laid the foundation for further growth. In 1975, the fourth generation took over with Ignace De Brabandere. Under his leadership, the focus shifted more to the catering industry, export and marketing. For many years, the beer brand Petrus was visible on the shirts of the first division football club Zulte-Waregem, which further increased the brand awareness.

In 2013, the fifth generation took over with Albert De Brabandere. He officially took over in 2017, and since then, significant investments have been made in modernization and capacity expansion. Today, the brewery produces an extensive range of beers that are appreciated worldwide by enthusiasts and connoisseurs. Their range consists of pilsner, specialty beers and high-fermentation beers, which regularly win awards.

At Brouwerij De Brabandere, tradition is central, but always with an eye for innovation. They combine authentic craftsmanship with modern techniques and are constantly looking for new flavors and improvements. The ingredients are of top quality: aroma hops, natural yeast cultures, and pure water from their own source. In addition, each beer is given the time to mature quietly, which ensures characterful flavors. Time is an essential and rare ingredient for them.

What also makes them unique is their strong local roots. The brewery contributes to life in Bavikhove and supports numerous local initiatives, sports clubs and associations. The bond between the brewery and the community is therefore particularly strong. Their employees share a passion for beer and literally and figuratively bring life to the brewery.
