Brouwerij Boelens

The two brewing families Boelens and De Meester are the basis of the current Boelens Brewery.

When it was founded in 1850, the brewery was called De Meester-Boelens. The founder De Meester was childless and asked a cousin by marriage, Henri Boelens, to continue the business. Henri married Maria De Meester and the name of the brewery changed to Boelens-De Meester.

In 1915 the brew kettles were seized by the Germans. The Boelens family was able to continue bottling with the permission of the occupier, after purchasing its beer from other breweries.

After the First World War, they continued to work with bottling alone, until the middle of the 20th century. In addition, the company also functioned as a beer trade.

Kris Boelens took over the beer trade in 1978 and the idea matured to start brewing again. In 1993 he started craft brewing again and in 2016 his son Yannick joined the brewery.
