IPA
An India Pale Ale or IPA is a beer style that is characterized by a pronounced hop aroma and hop bitterness. IPAs range in color from light golden yellow to amber and typically have a moderate to high alcohol content, usually between 5% and 7% or even higher. They are traditionally made with predominantly pale malt (Pale Ale) and lots of hops.
- American IPA or Regular IPA: This is the most common style and is known for its balance between hop bitterness and maltiness.
- Double IPA (DIPA) or Imperial IPA: These IPAs have a higher alcohol content and a more intense hop aroma and flavor.
- Session IPA: These are lighter IPAs with a lower alcohol content, allowing you to drink several during a drinking occasion.
- New England IPA (NEIPA): These IPAs have a hazy appearance and emphasize hop aromas without too much bitterness.
- Black IPA (BIPA): Although they are dark in color, they still retain the characteristic hop aroma and flavor of an IPA.
