Antwerpse Brouw Compagnie

The Antwerp Brewery Company is an independent city brewery, located in the heart of Antwerp. Since its foundation in 2012, the brewery has been run entirely by passionate beer lovers. With the support of more than a thousand crowdfunders, they built a modern brewery in the city centre, giving Antwerp its own independent brewery once again. Their mission is clear: to make unique beers of high quality, without compromises or commercial copies, but beers that they like to drink themselves.

They brew, among other things, the historic Seefbier, an iconic Antwerp beer that was revived after an absence of more than half a century. Bootjes Bier, a tribute to the Red Star Line, also comes from their kettles. In 2022, Martin's Pale Ale, originally an Antwerp classic, was brought back to the city and has since found a new home at the Antwerp Brewery Company.

The brewery combines modern technology with traditional brewing methods, always driven by curiosity and a pursuit of top quality. Sustainability plays an important role in their way of working: they use 100% green energy, reuse heat from the brewing process and focus on environmentally friendly and circular solutions. For them, beer is a natural product that must be brewed with care and respect.

The real power behind the brewery is the team – a group of people with a passion for beer, supported by cafés, shops and countless enthusiasts who help shape Antwerp's beer culture. They do not brew beers to stand out, but to leave a lasting impression.

Seefbier's history underlines their connection with the city. This beer was already brewed in Antwerp in the 16th century, when the city had hundreds of breweries. Despite heavy tax burdens and the temporary ban on buckwheat – an important ingredient of Seefbier – the beer continued to exist thanks to popular resistance and illegal brewing. The name Seefbier was first officially mentioned in 1677. In the 19th century, it became the most popular beer in Antwerp. The Seefhoek district, named after the many cafés where Seefbier flowed freely, is a reminder of that. More than a hundred breweries in and around the city produced the beer.

Today, the Antwerp Brewing Company revives that rich history. Not as nostalgia, but as a source of inspiration for authentic beers, firmly rooted in Antwerp tradition and with a view to the future. They brew because they love beer, and you can taste that in every glass.
