Brouwerij Deca

The brewery in Woesten was founded in the late 18th century and was originally owned by the Synaeve family. In 1881 the brewery passed to the Vanneste family through a marriage to Florimond Vanneste. During the First World War, the brewery was completely destroyed, but in 1920 reconstruction began on a new location.

In 1926 the brewery was left to the Decaestecker family, because there was no succession in the Vanneste family. Jozef Decaestecker led the brewery until about 1965, after which his sons Maurice, Paul and Antoine took over the management. The brewery was named DECA, derived from the first four letters of their last name.

In 1980, the Christiaens family joined the story. Georges Christiaens built breweries in Africa, but bought Deca Brewery to show potential African customers what a small-scale brewery was. After letting and vacancy, Georges' son, Nicolas, decided in 1991 to start the brewery himself again.

Father and son worked closely together, but in December 2013 Georges died in a serious traffic accident. In his honor, the beer 'Georges IV' was launched in 2014. On April 23, 2021, the sixth generation of the brewing family was born, with the birth of identical twins Georges Arthur and Marius, with the eldest son being named Georges to continue family tradition.
