De Achelse Kluis

Since 1850, the former Trappist Achel has been brewed within the walls of the Achelse Kluis under the supervision of the monk community. The beers being brewed today are Achel Blond, Achel Bruin, Achel Blond Extra and Achel Bruin Extra, filled in bottles of 33cl or 75cl.

The Trappists brewed until 1917, until the Germans took their installation with them.

In 1998, it was revived again by the knowledge and skills of Rochefort, Westvleteren and Westmalle. In addition to the brewery, they also have an abbey shop and a brasserie.

After the last 2 monks left the abbey in 2021, the ATP decided that Achel could no longer wear the Trappist label from 2023.

In 2023, the Tormans Group will take over all activities of the Achelse Kluis.
